Tried out my new hunting blind this morning... Bought it on sale from Cabela's a couple of weeks ago. I have to say that I love sitting on the ground versus sitting up a tree! Plus the sides keep the wind off of me so my feet stayed warm and no motion sickness!!! No targets in the 2 hours we hunted: Bah humbug!

Sat back in my oldest stand again on the clover plot yesterday afternoon. Lot warmer than the morning's hunt... But, did not see a single deer! Ugh.

Spent 3 hours of early Saturday morning freezing my ninnies off in my oldest deer stand on the lower clover plot. It only sits about 15 feet off the ground and it labeled a "double seater" but that just means I have lots of room in it. Saw a young 6-pointer buck come through about 45 minutes after daylight... Not a "wall hanger" buck by any means and illegal to shoot in our county anyway. My super heavy insulated duck shoes from LL Bean only kept my toes warm the first 55 minutes of hunting (even w/ a pr of my thickest wool socks)... SO disappointed! My quest to find warm boots continues...

Next Step In Our Retirement Plan

We finally signed up a local contractor from the Pine Mountain area to complete our slab for our barn on the land back home. Last Monday we poured 51 yards of concrete after they installed all of the underslab plumbing, electrical, a septic tank and water/electric lines over to the well. The concrete trucks started rolling in at 8:30am and did not stop until after 11:00am! Will post photos of the finished product this coming weekend!

North Face Endurance Challenge 2011!

I participated in The North Face Endurance Challenge again this year at FD Roosevelt State Park in my hometown of Pine Mountain, GA. The race was this past weekend with the much longer race lengths on Saturday and the shorter ones (including mine) on yesterday Sunday. This year the local middle school's Fit Club participated in the race and my nephew who is a member ran the same race I did! Of course, his being a skinny 12 year old with the energy levels of a leopard made his running pace WAY faster than mine! But, I had a blast watching him and his young classmates race around the very hilly and rocky mountain.. and Yes, it truly is a mountain. To all those doubters out there, run it and you will found out real quick just how much of a mountain it is!!

What a sad, sad day for the Apple computer/electronics lovers of the world... a truly amazing man passed on today after leading such an innovative life and being such an inspiration to the rest of us.

I remember the day I bought my very first computer at the Georgia Tech Bookstore... the Mac Classic II. It was the all in one unit w/ a 9-inch black-n-white screen. It had the handy carrying handle built in the top so I thought that made the tiny screen okay since I could "carry" it wherever I wanted (even though it weighed 16 whopping pounds!)...And it had 2 MB of RAM!! And that my friends is what $1500 could buy you back in 1991.
I have progressed from a 9 inch screen in 1991 to a 27 inch screen in 2011: 20 Years of Creativity!!!

We have lost our generation's greatest visionary. May you rest in peace Steve Jobs, you will be dearly missed.

Celebrating 5-Years Colorado Style!

Hubby and I celebrated our 5-Year Anniversary of wedded bliss this past weekend with a long weekend trip to Colorado for the Great American Beer Festival. We hopped on the big bird late Thursday evening...

An awesome tour on Friday morning through the Coors manufacturing plant (a.k.a. "Brewery") kicked off our long weekend getaway to Colorado! The home of my favorite brews in the Blue Moon line...

And what was the best part of the tour you ask? The free brews at the end!

Made a quick trip through the Rockies after our Coors tour and before our first day of the beer festival.

As you can imagine with this being the "super bowl of all beer festivals" the Denver Convention Ctr was PACKED with other fellow beer lovers... this was the crowd at the Blue Moon Brewing Co.'s booth awaiting the tapping of their special edition "Peanut Butter Ale"... what a wait for such a treat!

And here I am finally sampling the special edition "Peanut Butter Ale" and then the "Vintage Blonde Ale" and then the "Rasberry Cream Ale"... NONE of which you can buy ANYWHERE! Festivals are the only place they pour them!

After sampling so many different brews, you really begin to feel like this:

On our second day at the festival I wore my new Blue Moon shirt... and it paid off! I was called "Blue Moon's Biggest Fan" by the folks at their booth and scored some great swag for it!

Al in all, we really enjoyed our two days of the beer festival... (thank you to my super co-worker Mark who gave us the tix!). We truly drank WAY too much beer during the trip. The leaves changing in the mountains made our little field trip up there absolutely worth the 5 hours of driving it... And of course, we hope to get to go back next year!
