The Warrior Spirit vs. Darn Ol' Cancer
I am so happy to report that our beloved dog, Sampson seems to be on the up-slide in the past week! We are estatic!! After 5 or so weeks of not willingly eating any thing, laying around virtually comatose for hours at a time, etc., Sampson the Warrior has bounced back (somewhat) and has been eating hamburgers, pizza, steak, veggies, sausage, fish, sandwiches, etc. We (us and our good neighbors) had been shooting baby food and blended chicken/rice type foods down him with a syringe-like shooter almost every 2-4 hours for the past several weeks just to get nutrition in him to hopefully give him the energy to stay mobile. He has lost so much weight that the bones in his head and hips are so evident now. He almost has a svelt-like figure now! But, just like that, in one day (last Thursday as a matter of fact) he just all of a sudden wanted to eat! And on his own- by himself! With no shooter! We had him all weekend since he stays with the neighbors most weekday nights and days and he did wonderful. We took him for a ride in the truck, bought him takeout, played with him the yard, etc. And he slept all night in the house with no problems too. He even looks like he has gained a little weight back... so fingers crossed that maybe the Warrior is winning the fight against that ol' cancer mass! We plan on taking him back the Vet this Saturday- pray for a good report.

Sad News About Sydney Pollack
On Friday I found out that Robert Redford is engaged and tonight I read that Sydney Pollack has died of cancer at 73 years old. What a bummer. Now some of you are wondering, “who is Sydney Pollack?” Well Mr. Pollack was an actor and a producer but he was most well known for being a Director. He directed many, many great films- and several of those starred Robert Redford! Do any of these ring a bell?--
Jeremiah Johnson, The Way We Were, Three Days Of The Condor, The Electric Horseman, Tootsie, Out Of Africa, Havana, The Firm, Sabrina, Random Hearts, and so on. He was notorious for directing a movie and playing a small acting part in it himself. The most recent one being Random Hearts with Harrison Ford and Kristin Scott Thomas… he played her campaign manager or something along those lines. The article stated that he was diagnosed 9 months ago and lost the battle today. I am sure it will be all over the Hollywood gossip shows and magazines by tomorrow…Oh well, I suppose Memorial Day now has more than one meaning for some…

Alzheimer's vs. Cancer 2
I wrote a blog back in late February titled Alzheimer’s vs. Cancer. This blog represented a subject that is very near and dear to my heart and I put a lot of effort into composing it. I got a LOT of feedback on the blog at my “other” blog-posting site. I did not get one single comment on this blog site when I posted… until this week. Someone “Anonymous” left me a comment this week on a blog post that was over a month old… they signed the comment “Mary-Anne”… now I do not mind folks I do not know commenting on this blog… the reason I am writing about this comment in particular though is to share with you the interesting link she added to her comment. This article “Alzheimer’s or Cancer: Which Disease Would You Rather Die From?” came out almost 3 weeks after my blog post… interesting article to say the least… I think this is such an interesting topic that could be discussed at so many different levels and in so many different angles. I still support my position and so does the writer of this article. Go check it out for yourself!
In the meantime, I keep seeing more and more commercials on the TV these days for Alzheimer’s medicines… mostly Aricept. I also keep seeing more articles in the AJC/local newspapers too about “dealing with aging parents and their dementia”… I am telling you- it is a HUGE sign of what is about to come in the future… Be Prepared I tell you! It is going to be a plague and I just hope that everyone is ready for it… if they do not put more money and effort into the research of this disease, we are all headed down a very scary and painful road… Soon enough... I guarantee it.
